LIONS FORMULATE PARTNERSHIP IN EDUCATION WITH HANNAN MAGNET


The Lions have renewed and enhanced their Partners in Education (PIE) relationship with Hannan Magnet Academy, a Columbus elementary school located at 1338 Talbotton Road, both parties announced today. For the third-year partnership, a “Game Plan” was developed and will be coordinated by Lions Head Coach Jason Gibson, Hannan Principal Dr. Ann Robison and Hannan PIE Coordinator Shannon Hustick.

The “Game Plan” identifies four “Success Factors” with specific strategies and timelines designed to achieve core objectives, namely:

1. 1) Improving Academic Performance -- Lions players and coaches will read with students on Dr. Seuss “Read Across America Day” (Friday, March 2, 2012) and students will create an advertisement for The Columbus Lions to be displayed at the Columbus Civic Center (winter 2011-12).
   
   
2. 2) Growing Career Opportunities – WHKL (Hannan Magnet simulated radio station) News Reporters will develop questions and a segment to interview the Columbus Lions (ongoing)
   
   
3. 3) Enriching the Life Experience For Students – “Eat With a Lion” as Lions players and coaches have lunch with students in the Hannan cafeteria (ongoing); “Hannan Day with the Lions” as students earning Excellent Behavior for the Year status will attend a Columbus Lions Football Camp at Hannan Academy (May 2012);   The Columbus Lions/Technology Expo – the Lions will participate in a meet-and-greet at the “9^th Annual Technology Expo” (May 8 from 5-7 p.m.)
   
   
4. 4) Faculty Development – The Columbus Lions will assist faculty by reading to students on “Read Across America Day” (March 2, 2012); Lions players will mentor students by having lunch together and talking with them about the importance of school and good behavior (ongoing).
   
   

In addition to the Hannan Magnet Academy partnership administered by the Muscogee County School District and the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce, the Lions also intend to continue a similar relationship with Harris County Carver Middle School in nearby Hamilton, GA.
