WELCOME TO THE COLUMBUS YOUTH INDOOR  FOOTBALL LEAGUE!

The Columbus Lions will be entering their 3rd season of the Youth Indoor Football League (YIFL). The YIFL is the first-ever indoor youth football league supported by the Columbus Lions. The YIFL allows 9-10 and 11-12 year olds to experience first-hand, the fast-paced and thrilling action that makes indoor football one of the country's fastest growing sports. During the program's formation, Lions coaches and staff worked hand-in-hand with Columbus Recreational Sports to adapt the professional rules to meet youth abilities. The result is a game that focuses heavily on having fun and developing offensive success with a 8-on-8 scheme in accordance with indoor football principals. Throughout the YIFL season, Lions players and coaches perform coaching clinics and training camps to offer their unique knowledge and insight. Members of the Columbus Lions Dance Team will often attend games to offer the young players encouragement. The YIFL started in 2007 with 6 teams and 90 players. This season we expect over 300 youth to participate in the program forming 18+ teams.

The Columbus Lions plan to work extensively with several youth football leagues and dance organizations in the Columbus area to help increase interest in football and dance. Lion’s coaches, players, dancers and mascot will attend youth games, practices and pep rallies organized by the football and dance associations throughout the off-season. The children have the opportunity to interact with professional football players and dancers. The players and dancers sign autographs and provide the children with giveaway items in a true community based atmosphere.

Age Groups: 9-10; 11-12 (We will use September 1st, 2010 as age cut off date.) We are considering adding a 13yr old division based upon participation.

2010 Registration: 11-12 division will register on the following dates. Please bring a copy of birth certificate or proof of age. Registration fee is $85

April 24th 10am-1pm Columbus Civic Center

Restricted Players: The initial weigh-in will be official in determining a player's game status as either restricted or unrestricted.

9-10 division (over 115 lbs. restricted)
11-12 division (over 135 lbs. restricted)

Team Limits: Each team is limited to a maximum of 25 players per team.

Schedule: Season will consist of 6 games plus playoffs to begin on May 23rd 2010.
