Jason Gibson is entering his fourth season as the Head Coach/Director of Football Operations of the Columbus Lions. The Lions have won 31 of 42 regular season games under Gibson (73%), 3 straight playoffs appearances, and an amazing 17-4 home record. Last season, Gibson led the Lions to an 11-3 record and the southern division title. The Lions finished the season ranked 3rd in scoring offense, 2nd in scoring defense, and lead the league with 53 takeaways. Recruiting was a key factor in 2009 as Gibson was able to sign former AFL stars Carlos Martinez K, Troy Bergeron WR (Currently with the Atlanta Falcons), Eric Johnson LB, and Branden Hall OL.
In 2008, the Lions finished 10-4. Gibson directed an offense that finished in the top 4 in almost every offensive catagory. The Lions were #1 in Red Zone offense (87.8%), #1 in passing offense (226.6ypg), and #2 in scoring offense (54.9 ppg). Two Lion players signed AFL contracts midseason (Monreko Crittenden OL, LA Avengers and Anthony Merritt WR, Colorado Crush).
In 2007, Gibson posted a league best 10-4 record and hosted the league championship game. Under Gibson, the Lions were the only team in the league with a winning road record (4-3) while posting a (6-1) record at home. Eight Lions players earned first team selections including both co-defensive players of the year Damian Daniels and Jauron Dailey. For his efforts, Gibson was selected as the WIFL coach of the year.
In 2006, Gibson led the now defunct Chattahoochee Valley Vipers to an 8-6 record and a playoff birth. Gibson continued his winning ways at home with a 6-1 record while he also coached current L.A. Avenger (AFL) Brandon Hall. Gibson began his arena coaching career in 2004 as the offensive coordinator for the Greensboro Prowlers (AF2). His offense, lead by AFL Star and former Kansas City Chief Bobby Sippio, ranked in the top five averaging 51.6 points per game.
Gibson has seven years of high school football coaching experience. He served two years as the QB/WR coach at Calvert High School in Prince Frederick, MD. One year as the quarterback/wide receiver coach at Dudley High School in Greensboro, NC. Two years as offensive coordinator at Western Guilford High School and two years as head coach at Eastern Guilford High School. His efforts at Eastern earned him the Carolina Panthers 2004 NFL High School Football Coach of the year. He spent 1997 as the wide receiver coach for Fairmont State University.
Gibson began his football career as a quarterback at Calvert (Md.) High School in Calvert. He went on to play at Fairmont State University (W.V), as a Quarterback but moved to wide receiver for his sophomore through senior years. In his senior year, despite missing 2 games to injury, Gibson finished seventh in the nation in receiving touchdowns while garnering all-conference honors and leading the conference in scoring. His single-season touchdown receptions mark of 18 still stands in the Fairmont State record book.
His professional career includes stints with the BC Lions and Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League, and the Marburg Mercenaries in the GFL Europe where he led the league with 24 receiving touchdowns. Gibson began his Arena career with the Greensboro Prowlers of AF2. He is the all-time leader in receptions, TD’s, yards, and second all-time in interceptions in Greensboro history. Gibson finished his career with Wilkes Barre Pioneers in AF2 under Dean Cokinos.
Gibson received a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice/Spanish from Fairmont State University in 1996. He received his education degree from North Carolina A&T University in 2005.
A native of Huntingtown, MD, Gibson is married to the former Sarah Blanton of Phenix City, AL and now resides in Phenix City, AL. They have a son named Gunnar and two dogs.

FRED WILLIAMS
Assistant Coach
Fred Williams begins his third year on Jason Gibson’s staff, where he assists with both offensive and defensive line.
In 2008, Williams coached the Lion’s defensive line who ranked first against the run and finished fourth in the league with 30 sacks.
Since the 2007 season, Williams has coached both offensive and defensive lines anchored by notable Collegiate All stars: All-SEC first team / second team All- American Monreko Crittenden OL, Auburn University; All-Southern Conference / two time Div. I-AA National Champion, Jeremy Robertson OL, Appalachian State; Florida Hall of Fame / 2000 SEC champion, Thaddeus Bullard DL, University of Florida.
In 2003-’06 , Williams was an Assistant Offensive Coordinator for the Atlanta Prime, a minor league professional football team based in Atlanta, Ga. He compiled a record of 52 wins, 3 losses, 3 SEAFL championships, and 1 National championship. In the 2006 season, Williams helped lead his team to a final second place national ranking as reported by National Football Events “Coaches Poll” top 30 teams in the nation.

Coach Williams is a native of Albany, Ga., and a graduate of Albany High School where he lettered in football. He is the brother of Workers’ Compensation Judge Tasca Hagler and brother in-law to prominent Columbus defense attorney, Richard Hagler.
Coach Williams has one child, Austin Williams, a student and Varsity Football Letterman at Glenwood High School.

BRETT WINK
Quality Control/ Linebackers Coach
Brett is in his second year with the Lions. He is a graduate of Glenwood School in Phenix City where he was an all Bi-City safety for Hall of Fame coach Wayne Trawick. He was also a starting guard for Hall of Fame basketball coach Doug Key. In addition to his duties with the Lions, Brett also coaches football at Brookstone High School
Brett is currently pursuing his degree in physical education at Columbus State University with aspirations of becoming a head football coach in the near future. He is originally from West Monroe, LA and is a huge LSU fan. Brett is thrilled and excited to have this opportunity to coach with such a great organization.

SCOTT LUNATO
Trainer
Scott Lunato was born and raised in Huron, Ohio. He received his Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Tyler in 2005. He has spent 23 years in the United States Army during this time he has held numerous positions and certifications with in the medical field. His current position is the Head Nurse of the recovery room at Martin Army Community Hospital. He is a Captain in the Army Nurse Corps. He has worked in the operating room at Jack Hughtson Memorial Hospital as well as major medical centers such as Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Bethesda Naval Medical Center, Triple Army Medical Center and Madigan Army Medical Center. He specializes in trauma, emergency and orthopedics. He is an instructor of advance cardiac life support as well as basic life support. He is a active member of Emergency Nurses Association as well as the Association of Operating Room Nurses. He has recently returned from deployment in the Middle East. He has two children Dominique and Nicolas.
