The Columbus Lions in conjuction with Davis Broadcasting, Columbus Regional, and Xenith helmets have announced the second annual Georgia vs. Alabama Indoor Football Classic, which will take place on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 7 p.m. in the Columbus Civic Center. This event celebrates football in the Chatahoochee Valley by gathering outstanding seniors from area high school football teams to participate in an Indoor Football style all-star game.
There will be two teams of 20 players from Georgia and Alabama. Chattahoochee County Head Coach Josh Kemp will be coaching the Georgia squad and Beauregard High School Head Coach Smitty Grider will control the Alabama sidelines. Assisting these men will be the Columbus Lions coaches and players.
Xenith X1 helmets will provide their latest in helmet technology to each teams head coach for the use during the 2010 season. Xenith helmets offer innovative and superior football helmets that are designed to increase safety and activity. Lions Head Coach Jason Gibson said, “In light of all of the debate regarding traumatic head injuries we felt the need to share a product that we have been using for the past two seasons. I feel strongly that these helmets will assist in maintaining the continued health and well-being of our community’s student athletes.”
The game will include all of the excitement of a Lion’s game including team introductions and the participation of select high school bands, cheerleaders, and mascots. Players will use the Lions locker rooms and will keep their official game jerseys. Following the game, the high school all-stars along with the Lions players, will be on the field for a post game autograph session.
All tickets for the event will be $10 and will go on sale Monday February 22, 2010 at the Civic Center box office. Call the Lions at 706-322-3336 for more details.
