SIFL Champion Lions to Hold Tryout October 2nd in Atlanta

August 29, 2010 (COLUMBUS)-  The 2010 SIFL Champions Columbus Lions are pleased to announce that they will be holding a tryout Saturday October 2nd at Lakewood stadium located at 70 Claire Dr. SW, Atlanta, GA, 30301  This will mark the first open tryout leading into the Lions 2011 season.
 

Registration will begin at 8:00 AM and the tryout will begin promptly at 9:00 AM.  Participants should pre-register by CLICKING HERE FOR REGISTRATION FORM. The pre-registration fee is $40.00 and should be in the form of a check or money order and mailed to the Lions office at 400 4th Street, Columbus, GA 31901.  Registration the day of the tryout will be $50.00 and will only be accepted in the form of cash or money order (no checks will be accepted). Participants should wear athletic shorts, tennis shoes or cleats for a field turf grass surface.  No metal cleats will be permitted. Players will be tested in the 40 yard dash, 20 yard short shuttle, and the “L” drill. Following the testing, participants will do position specific drills and 1 on 1’s. The tryout is expected to last 3 hours.

The Lions finished the 2010 season by defeating the 3-time defending champion Louisiana Swashbucklers 68-13 for their first ever SIFL Championship. They head into 2011 returning three-time Defensive Player of the Year, Damian Daniels, who was discovered at an open tryout.  “These tryouts are a great way to discover new talent,” said Head Coach Jason Gibson, “Atlanta is a hot bed for football talent which led us to the area.”  Gibson hopes to sign a few players based on the talent level.  “With Columbus being 90 miles from Atlanta and the success I had this past season signing players that lived in Atlanta like Tirone Morris, Justen Rivers, and Leon Foster, holding a tryout here is a no brainer.”
