-LIONS SIGN VERSATILE MARYLAND STAR DREW GLOSTER

COLUMBUS, GA, Nov. 23 --  Another outstanding two-way player from Head Coach Jason Gibson’s home territory is the latest addition to the team’s 2012 roster.  Drew Gloster, a combination linebacker-tight end out of the University of Maryland measuring 6’2”, 255 pounds, joins the Lions after a stellar career for the Terrapins.

“Drew is a  big, athletic guy who can play multiple positions.  He fits the mold of the caliber of player we want to bring in this year,” said Gibson, who’s from Huntingtown, MD.
Gloster, a Germantown, MD native, started 12 games at defensive end as a senior, recording 33 tackles with four pass breakups.  He came up with a career-high seven tackles September 6, 2010 against Navy.

As a junior, Gloster played in all 12 games at linebacker and on special teams.  He was ruled ineligible before his sophomore year;  though he didn’t see game action, he practiced with the team all season and twice earned scout team offensive player of the week recognition.     Gloster played in 11 games as a redshirt freshman in 2007, positioned at reserve tight end/H-back and on special teams.  At Good Counsel High School, he started for three years at H-back and defensive end.  His senior-year statistics included 33 receptions for 552 yards (16.7 average) and six touchdowns his senior year, with 42 tackles seven sacks, two tackles for loss and a pass breakup.   He was named first team all-Metro by The Washington Post and The Pigskin Club.

Gloster’s grandfather, Sandy Stephens, was an all-American quarterback – the first in school history – who led Minnesota to the Rose Bowl in 1960 and 1961 while finishing fourth in 1961 Heisman Trophy balloting.  Gloster majored in communications at Maryland.
