COLUMBUS, Ga., December 6 – Former Bulldogs defensive lineman Darrius Swain joins the Columbus Lions for the 2012 Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) season, announced Columbus Lions head coach and director of football operations, Jason Gibson. Swain, 6’3 and 330 pounds, who hails from Decatur , has over 85 career tackles and was named a Second Team Freshman All-American, First Team Freshman All-SEC, and a Las Vegas All-Star Classic in his senior year. “He is a big time player who comes from one of the top programs in the country,” said Gibson, who enters his sixth season as head coach. “It will be difficult for anyone to block him one-on-one.” Swain said he is eager to be a part of the successful Lions team. “This is a new start for me. I know how talented I am, and now I can show the world what I am capable of.” With his talent, the Lions are excited too, said Gibson. “He will be a dominating player on the defensive line… We are excited to get him into camp and cut him loose.” ![]() Combining this ability with the Lions track record of success puts us on the path of an action-packed season, said Gibson. And after winning the 2010 Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) title, which is now called PIFL, and the Southern Division Championship in 2007, 2009 and 2011, the Lions have a “bring it home” mentality this year, said Gibson. It’s not just about bringing the conference title home this season, but bringing in local players as well, he explained. “Swain is our first player from The University of Georgia.” The UGA star said he is ready to show case his ability and drive to help the Lions earn the title this season. “I’ve got a lot to prove.” |
