| COLUMBUS, GA, December 12 -- Columbus Lions Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Jason Gibson today announced that Albany State wide receiver Ronnie Childs and offensive lineman Michael Mavromichalis, both all-SIAC selections in 2010, have signed contracts with the Lions for the 2012 Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) season. “We are fortunate to sign these two great athletes,” said Gibson. They both had outstanding careers at Albany State University and I look forward to getting them into camp and helping continue our winning tradition on and off the field.” Childs, 6-foot-3, 200 pounds from Manchester, Georgia, led the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with 1,005 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns his senior year. His 45 receptions and 22.3 yards per catch were the top SIAC marks for wide receivers. A first-team All-SIAC selection, Childs helped the Golden Rams to the 2010 Sheridan Broadcasting Network (SBN) Sports Black College National Football Championship and their first-ever SBN Jake Gaither National Championship Trophy. The Golden Rams also won the 2010 SIAC Championship and earned a berth in the NCAA Division II playoffs. Mavromichalis, 6-foot-6, 330 pounds, was a key anchor on the Golden Rams offensive line, helping them lead the conference with 4,386 of total offense. The junior out of Windsor Forest High School of Savannah, Georgia captained and was one of the leaders on an Albany State team that finished the season 11-1, winning their first conference title since 2006, and advancing to the third round of the NCAA playoffs. “Mav”, as the lineman is best known, was the only first-team selection from the SIAC on the 2010 Daktronics All-Super Region Two as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). |
