KNOXVILLE, TN (July 10, 2012) – The Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) is proud to announce that Columbus Lions WR Maurice Dupree has been named the 2012 Offensive Player of the Year.

Back in 2011, in his indoor debut against the Alabama Hammers Dupree (5’10 190, Jacksonville St.) proved he would be a scoring threat hauling in three touchdown receptions.  Unexpected personal family matters caused the Cherokee County native to return home and after given his release from Columbus he signed with the Alabama Hammers.  Before leaving the Lions, Dupree made a vow to the coaching staff that he would return the following season.

He lived up to his vow and in just his second season Dupree earned his first MVP award after leading the PIFL in scoring (242), touchdown receptions (40), and receiving yards (1278).  Without returning a kick, his 1,278 yards landed him second in all-purpose yards while his 95 receptions landed him second only to teammate London Crawford.

In 2012, Dupree had multiple touchdown trips in all 12 regular season games and in half of those games he had four or more sprees to the end-zone.  Eight of his 40 touchdowns grabs came from 30 yards out or further, most of any receiver in the PIFL and was also the lone offensive player to have been selected unanimously to the PIFL’s All-1st Team.

Stay tuned to www.proifl.com throughout this week as the PIFL will be announcing 2012 League MVP as well as the recipient of the Coach of the Year.
