ATLANTA, GEORGIA – The National Arena League is proud to announce the league’s recipients of the Week Thirteen Players of the Week. The league had three outstanding contests from this past weekend, and from those games the following winners for Offensive, Defensive, and Special Teams Players of the Week were selected:
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tristan Purifoy (WR, Columbus Lions)
In the NAL Game of the Week which featured the Columbus Lions versus the Monterrey Steel, there were huge playoff implications on the line. The winner would take sole possession of third place, and in the Lions case a win would solidify that position for the NAL Playoffs. In a tight 49-42 victory Columbus Receiver Tristan Purify put on a show hauling in 9 passes for 145 yards and five touchdowns to take home weekly NAL Honors.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dom Joseph (DB, Lehigh Valley Steelhawks)
The Steelhawks had already clinched the #2 seed in the playoffs prior to the game this past weekend, but that didn’t mean they didn’t want to get their 9th win of the season on the road down in Albany. After sloppy play in the first half it was the Steelhawks defense that put the clamp down and sealed a 51-26 victory. Defensive Back Dom Joseph led the defensive unit with 5.5 tackles, two pass breakups, and two interceptions with 32 return yards.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Spencer Hotaling (K, Lehigh Valley Steelhawks)
For the second week in a row, and third time this season, the Steelhawks place kicker takes home the Special Teams Player of the Week award. Hotaling hit on 3 out of 4 extra points, and hit two huge Deuces in a tight contest that was tied after three quarters.
Week Fourteen in the NAL, and the last week of the regular season pits the Monterrey Steel and Jacksonville Sharks playing a First Round Playoff preview on Saturday evening, while the other game boasts the battle of Georgia as the Lions head to Albany to face the Firebirds in their season finale.
The NAL Playoffs are also set starting the weekend of June 23rd as the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (#2 seed) will host the Columbus Lions (#3) at 7:30 pm inside the PPL Center. Then on Saturday evening, June 24th the Jacksonville Sharks (#1 seed) will once again host the Monterrey Steel (#4 seed).
