Road Trouble Continue For Lions

07/10/2019 5:17 AM

For the Columbus Lions (3-8), the hard road to the playoffs continue. But the fact is, playoffs aspirations are still very much in reach after falling to the defending champion Carolina Cobras (8-3) 70-28 on the road.
The Lions changed things up this week, electing to go with Mitch Kidd at quarterback instead of Luke Collis. Kidd would be 21/41 from the pocket for 186 yards, four touchdowns and a lone interception. It was his first start of the season. Bones Bagaunte lead the way with eight receptions for 72 yards and two touchdowns. Chris Sanders, who returned after a scary injury last week, and DeAndre Brown both hauled in touchdowns as well. It was a tough night for the Lions offense. The Lions ended the game with 183 total yards and two turnovers. The team saw themselves in a lot of third down situations, only converting two of 11 attempts.
For the Lions defense, Martay Maddox lead the way with 3.5 tackles. Kyle Griswould would come up big with an interception and Brayden Jasper would add a sack to his stat sheet. The secondary had their work cut out for them with Charles McCullum under center for the Cobras. McCullum would complete 13/17 passes for 209 yards and seven touchdowns.
For the Lions, they look to steam on ahead to next week as they welcome the New York Street (3-8) Saturday, July 13th at 7PM in the Columbus Civic Center. The Lions last win came June 15th when they defeated the Street on the road 68-55. Both teams fight for the last spot in the NAL Playoffs while tied in the standings. The Street are currently on a seven-game losing streak. They dropped to the Massachusetts Pirates 54-52 after a game-winning 60-yard field goal by Mike Weaver.
