07/12/2018 10:36 PM
Riding a three-game win streak and boasting the best record the NAL, the Columbus Lions have a reason to be confident heading into Saturday’s matchup against the Maine Mammoths.
Sitting at 5-3, the Lions needed to win a crucial game on the road against the Carolina Cobras to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Lions have taken it one game at a time and now sit in first place, with a great opportunity to claim home-field advantage during the playoffs. Their quest continues Saturday night in Maine.
This game will feature an exciting matchup between one of the top offenses and one of the top defenses in the league. The Lions come in to Saturday night boasting the number one offense in the NAL averaging 55.7 ppg and 273 ypg. They will be facing a Maine Mammoths team that has a stingy defense only allowing 210.3 ypg.
Quarterback Mason Espinosa continues his record year. Espinosa is at the top of almost every passing category and has been a huge leader for the Lions this season. Espinosa will look to get the offense on the board early and often on Saturday. Espinosa has been efficient all season long, leading the Lions to this 8-3 record. If Espinosa gets going and gets time in the pocket, then look out for a big day for the Lions offense.
Maine is a tough team to beat. Last time the Lions and Mammoths faced off the Lions had to pull away late to defeat Maine.
It will be very important for the Lions to start early and keep their foot on the gas pedal all game long. Being in first place puts a target on the back of the Lions and they will need to be on the top of their game if they want to leave Maine with a victory.
