DB Kyle Griswould returning to Columbus

by Alex Husting

Another familiar face returns to Columbus with defensive back Kyle Griswould returning to the Lions after a two-year absence. Griswould will be playing on both sides of the ball as wide receiver along with his traditional defensive back position.

Griswould was last with the Lions from 2016-2019, earning an All-NAL selection during his tenure. He was with the Lions during the first three years of the NAL’s existence, leading the team as one of the top defensive backs.

In 2017, Griswould led the Lions in interceptions, with 10, and tackles with 38.5. He also returned four of his interceptions for touchdowns as well as breaking up seven passes during the season.

Griswould led the defense in picks again in 2018, this time with six, as well being third on the team in tackles with 45 and second in pass breakups with nine.

In 2019, his final year with the Lions, Griswould tied for first on the team with four interceptions. He was once again second on the team with seven pass breakups as well as two fumble recoveries. He finished the season with 26 tackles, the fifth-most on the team.

Now Griswould will return to Columbus and the NAL as Ironman football takes centerstage for the 2022 season. With Ironman football rules in place, Griswould will be playing on offense as well as his usual role on defense. He brings to the offense experience as a wide receiver during his time at Middle Tennessee State.

Griswould went to Middle Tennessee State after transferring from Duke and he would go on to play three seasons with the Blue Raiders. He finished his college career with 152 receptions, 1776 receiving yards and nine touchdowns as well as 179 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. Griswould’s versatility and experience on offense could prove to be vital to the Lions during the 2022 season.
