Former UCONN Star Is Coming To The Lions Den

by Jason Gibson

The Columbus Lions are continuing to make moves during the 2021 Signing Period, this time on the offensive side of the ball. This past week, the Lions signed quarterback David Pindell from Uconn. The former Huskie’s journey began when he attended Oakland Mills high school and started at quarterback during his senior season in 2015. That year, Pindell was named the Howard County Times Offensive Player of the Year and the Baltimore Sun’s All-Metro Offensive Player of the Year. From there Pindell went to Lackawanna College in Scranton Pennsylvania. During his sophomore season Pindell threw for 2,424 yards and 31 touchdowns on 63.6 completion percentage. Pindell also had 459 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground but his true versatility would be on display later in his career.
Pindell left Lackawanna for UConn after his sophomore season. He spent most of his junior year competing for the starting job as the Huskies struggled to find consistent play at the quarterback position. Pindell played in 7 total games that year, starting four of them, and threw for 937 yards, four touchdowns and six interceptions. After making great strides during the offseason, Pindell was given the starting job before the 2018 season. It was during his senior year that Pindell showcased why he was named Offensive Player of the Year the Baltimore Sun and Howard County Times. In 12 games, Pindell threw for 1,962 yards and 19 touchdowns with a 59.2 completion percentage, over six percentage points higher than the year before. He led all FBS quarterbacks in rushing yards with 1,139 on the ground, which was the most by a quarterback in UConn single-season history. Pindell was named First Team All-New England and finished the season with 3,117 yards of total offense, the third most in UConn history. Pindell entered the NFL Draft following his senior season but went undrafted. Despite this, Pindell has not given up on his dream and has continued to work on his game and take every opportunity that comes his way. Now, with the Lions, Pindell has another opportunity to showcase his talent and skill on the football field. “David has shown in college he is ready for the big stage. I expect him to come in and compete immediately,” said Head Coach / Director of Football Operations Jason Gibson. Pindell is a great addition to the Lions’ quarterback room and could make an immediate impact during the 2021 season.
