Lions add running back Tiberias Lampkin

by Alex Husting

The Lions have made two additions to the offensive side of the ball this week, first with re-signing star quarterback Mason Espinosa, and now adding another running back in Tiberias Lampkin. While most of the players signed by the Lions tend to have long and storied careers but for Tiberias, his college career ended only two years and he is new to the landscape of arena football.

Lampkin played college ball all around the state of Mississippi, starting off at Mississippi State. Things did not pan out with the Bulldogs and Lampkin headed to the JUCO route with Northeast Mississippi Community College. During his one season, he racked up 700 total yards of offense and five touchdowns, which was good for top five in the state. He was also named JUCO All-Star Game MVP that season.

Following his stint at the JUCO level, Lampkin headed Mississippi College to play for the Choctaws. He started all 10 games for the Choctaws in each of his two years with them, finishing with 1,426 yards and seven touchdowns in his career.

After graduation, Lampkin looked for the next step in his football career and he eventually landed in the Champions Indoor Football League (CIFL) with the Omaha Beef in February of 2020. When their season was cancelled along with nearly every professional sports league across the country, Lampkin was once again on the move and in search of another team. Just before the 2021 NAL season, he has come to Columbus to join the Lions.

Lampkin brings some versatility as he really did it all at Mississippi College whether it was running, pass catching or blocking and he also brings some youth to the running back room as he looks to compete for a spot on the roster during camp.
