Lions bring in Linebacker and Fullback Kerry Starks

by Alex Husting

The Lions have added a key piece on both sides of the ball with fullback and linebacker Kerry Starks coming to Columbus.

Before joining the Lions, Starks was signed by the Bismarck Bucks Indoor Football League(IFL) in November of 2021. He was cut before the 2022 season began.

Starks’ was a defensive end at the University of Louisiana Monroe for three seasons from 2017-2019.

In his freshman season with the Warhawks, Starks appeared in 10 games for the team. He finished his first season in Monroe with 28 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and one pass deflection.

In his 10-game sophomore season, Starks improved in every major category. The Warhawks finished 6-6 and Starks ended the year with 36 total tackles, including 10 tackles for loss, four sacks, two pass deflections and a forced fumble.

His final season in the Sun Belt was more of the same, appearing in 11 games and recording 45 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, five sacks, one pass deflection and another forced fumble.

As Starks heads to Columbus, the Lions and the rest of the NAL prepare for the historic fifth season of the league, the first under the new NAL Ironman rules. Starks’ 6’2'' 235 lb. frame gives him the kind of versatility to play on both sides of the ball that the Lions will need in the 2022 season.
