Lions Re-Sign Veteran Offensive Lineman

by Alex Husting

With training camp starting at the end of the month, the Columbus Lions are putting the final touches on the roster before heading to camp. This week, they re-signed Dion Small, a long time offensive lineman for Columbus.

Small played college football at Troy University and was a four-year starter for the Trojans. He made an immediate impact at Troy, starting in all 12 games during his freshman season and being the highest rated lineman on the team. This continued throughout his college career at Troy which included 3 bowl appearances before going pro.

Small joined the Lions following the end of his college career and he has been with the team ever since. He has been a part of the SIFL, PIFL, AIF and now NAL during his time with the Lions and is one of the oldest players on the roster. In that time with the Lions, Small has been to six championship games. Re-signing Dion Small means the Lions keep a valuable contributor on the field and a leader and mentor inside the locker room.

“Dion has been a tremendous player in this league,” said coach Jason Gibson. “He is a true professional and fan favorite as well. We definitely got better today.”

Dion Small is a veteran leader for Columbus and his experience and knowledge of the game will help the Lions as they look to make it back to the NAL championship this season.
