Mason Espinosa Wins NAL Offensive Player of the Week

by Alex Husting

Mason Espinosa has been named the NAL Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, this time in the Lions’ highest scoring game of the season. Espinosa finished the game with 21 completions on 35 attempts for 228 yards and seven touchdowns along with no interceptions.

The first time Espinosa won the award was after the team’s first matchup with the Jacksonville Sharks during week four. Espinosa finished that game with 24 completions on 34 attempts, 270 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions.

Saturday’s performance in the rematch with Jacksonville was Espinosa’s third straight game with six or more touchdowns and his third straight game without an interception. Espinosa is top-two in nearly every major passing category this season, including completions which he is tied for the lead in the NAL with 146.

Espinosa now has 39 touchdowns this season, one shy of Tommy Grady’s 40 and the two quarterbacks will square off this Saturday, July 24 when the Albany Empire visit the Columbus Civic Center to battle the Lions for first place in the NAL.
