Maurice Leggett Earns Air Force Reserve Defensive Player of the Week Award

by Alex Husting

Maurice Leggett has been named the Air Force Reserve Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Empire on Saturday, his first time back on the field since June 19. Leggett led the team with nine total tackles, including eight solo tackles. a season-high for the defensive back.

Leggett had been injured in the Lions’ first matchup with the Jacksonville Sharks on June 19 and was out since that game. According to coach Gibson, the injury appeared to be a stinger in his neck and the team wanted to remain cautious before bringing Leggett back on the field.

Despite only appearing in four games this year, Leggett leads the Lions in solo tackles with 24 and he is fifth in the NAL despite only playing in four games. He also has two interceptions this year which is second on the Lions behind only Marvin Ross.

In his first game back, Leggett had an immediate impact and the Lions will be looking for more of the same with the playoffs on the horizon.

Leggett’s performance, as well as the entire game against the Empire can be watched here.

Leggett and the Lions will be inside the Columbus Civic Center again this Saturday for the regular season finale against the Jersey Flight.
