Ulric Jones named NAL and Air Force Reserve Defensive Player of the Week

by Alex Husting

“Big General” Ulric Jones has been named NAL Defensive Player of the Week as well as Air Force Reserve Defensive Player of the Week following his performance against the Carolina Cobras on Saturday.

For a defense that has been dominant, Jones has been one of the leaders for the Lions and Saturday was no different as he led the way with three sacks as the defense held the Cobras to just 30 points. Jones’ three sacks led the entire team and the Lions as a whole sacked the quarterback four times.

For Jones, this was his second straight multiple sack performance following a slow start to the season. Jones was generating pressure early in the season but could not find a way to bring the opposing quarterback to the turf until the Lions’ victory over the Sharks and he finished that game with 2.5 sacks.

His follow-up performance against the Cobras was even better and now Jones leads not only the team but the entire league with 5.5 sacks on the season. Jones seems to finally be hitting his stride at the right time as the Lions approach the final three games of the season.

The Lions will return to action on the road as they take on the Jacksonville Sharks on July 17. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. EST.
